They say age is only a number, but try telling that to Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer who travels to the 2022 World Cup as one of the most senior of veterans.

The 39-year-old has been named in the Netherlands squad, offering him an incredible chance to experience the global tournament for the first time in the twilight of his career.

Remarkably, he is only the sixth oldest player who could feature in Qatar, with Mexico stopper Alfredo Talavera beating off the competition to clock in at 40 years and 63 days old when the action kicks off in the Gulf on Sunday.

As pointed out by Voetbal International, the youngest player called up is Germany’s Youssoufa Moukoko.

The Borussia Dortmund starlet will only turn 18 on the opening day of the tournament. That means Pasveer is a full 21 years and 12 days older than the prodigious striker.
