Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli have entered talks to sign former Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi (38), according to a report from L’Équipe.

Saudi Arabia attempted to convince Messi to join the Saudi Pro League two years ago, upon the expiry of his contract at PSG. However, the forward, crowned world champions with Argentina back in 2022, opted to join Inter Miami in the MLS.

However, the Argentine’s contract is once again expiring. His deal with Inter Miami will run out in December, and whilst the Florida-based club wish to retain Messi, they will face competition.

As per L’Équipe, Al-Ahli, winners of the Asian Champions League, have been trying to convince the player to join the club for several weeks. The financial details of the approach have not been revealed, however, the Gulf State are open to investing heavily in bringing in the player.

Messi and Inter Miami were recently knocked out of the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup at the hands of this former club, PSG.
