Al-Hilal have set the benchmark of the Saudi Roshn League’s professional era, despite not lifting the title in the last two seasons, according to Goal.com.
The new season begins today, Thursday, with three fixtures: Abha v Al-Hazm, Al-Shabab v Al-Qadsiah, and Al-Ahli v Al-Diriyah.
This is the 19th season of the professional era, which began with its first edition in 2008-2009.
Over the previous 18 seasons, Al-Hilal have led the way, winning 8 titles, close to 50 per cent of all campaigns. That equals the combined hauls of Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli.
Al-Nassr are next with 4 championships, the latest arriving last season to end a seven-year drought.
Al-Ittihad are third on 3, most recently two seasons ago under French coach Laurent Blanc.
Al-Ahli have one crown, secured with Christian Gross in 2015-2016, which matches Al-Fateh and Al-Shabab.
Al-Hilal start their own Roshn League campaign tomorrow, Friday, when they host Al-Faisaly at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh.
