SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – LD Alajuelense won 2-1 at Alianza FC in the 2024 Central American Cup on Tuesday at the Estadio Cuscatlán in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Diego Campos gave the visitors the lead in the 7’ after beating the goalkeeper with a left-footed ground shot inside the box.
Campos extended Alajuelense’s lead in the 58’ to secure his brace with a left-footed finish to the near post. With the goal, Campos positions himself as the leading scorer in the 2024 edition with five goals.
Emerson Mauricio struck for Alianza FC in the 64’ to shorten the deficit with a diagonal hit to the bottom left corner.
LD Alajuelense reclaimed the lead in Group B with the victory. The Costa Rica side has nine points after winning its opening three matches.
Champions of the 2023 tournament, Alajuelense will continue its title defense after becoming the second club in the current edition to clinch its place in the quarterfinals. The club’s next match will be at home against Comunicaciones FC on August 27 in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Despite having one game in hand, Alianza is left without chances to advance to the knockout round and will close its participation against CD Marathon on August 27 in San Pedro Sula.
