Sporting Kansas City star forward Alan Pulido has signed a new contract with the Western Conference team, extending his stay at Children's Mercy Park through the 2026 MLS season.
Pulido's fine form in 2023 (13 goals and one assist in 25 appearances) has prompted SKC to tie the 32-year-old down to a new deal. Pulido has been effective when available, and is enjoying an excellent campagin after missing the 2022 season to injury and has emerged as the frontrunner for the 2023 Comeback Player of The Year award.
Pulido was a club-record signing (roughly $9.5m) for KC in 2020 when he left Liga MX giants Chivas Guadalajara to switch to MLS, and since joining the club he's registered 27 goals and 11 assists in 56 regular season appearances.
Kansas City's talisman will remain a Designated Player alongside midfielders Gadi Kinda and Erik Thommy.
Pulido has made 20 appearances at the international level for Mexico, scoring five goals in the process but hasn't featured since August 2021.
SKC will need Pulido fit and firing to finish in a playoff spot, as they currently sit in 12th palce in the Western Conference with 32 points from 28 games. Just two points out of a playoff spot, Kansas City prepare to take on Minnesota United on September 16 at Allianz Field.
