Alan Shearer has laid the blueprint Liverpool must follow to get the best out of Alexander Isak this season.

Isak has found form at the start of thePremier League season with three goals in three league appearances for the Reds.

The 26-year-old has already matched his return from a difficult debut season, as the Swede struggled for fitness and form following his £125m move to Anfield in 2025.

Isak netted both goals as Liverpool won 2-0 at Ipswich Town last Friday night, and Shearer was impressed with the forward's finishes.

He praised the service that Cody Gakpo provided Isak at Portman Road, and laid out what he believes is the key to bringing out the best in the forward.

"I said it, if you're going to get the best out of Isak, you have to play early balls in behind. Liverpool haven't been doing that and they did it last weekend," Shearer toldThe Rest is Football podcast.

"His two goals were brilliant. Say what you want about the goalkeeper, but the way he shifted his feet, the passes in behind from [Cody] Gakpo. Early balls, quick balls, running in behind into his path. That's how you'll get the best out of Alexander Isak, playing balls like that. Playing balls from out wide.

"He's brilliant at doing that, there's not many better. Once he gets you lined up one-versus-one, and the way he shifts his feet. But you have to play those quick balls into his feet and in behind to get the best from him. His finishes were superb."

Reflecting on his goalscoring start to the season, Isak said scoring goals 'lifts some weight' from his shoulders after a challenging first campaign with the club. He currently leads thePremier League Golden Boot race, alongside Bruno Fernandes and Erling Haaland.

"Scoring goals always lifts some weight off your shoulders. It's important, especially at the start of the season, to get off to a good start,"he said.
