In a concerning piece of development, Sama Nomoko, one of La Masia’s most promising talents, was injured in the first half of the UEFA Youth League match between FC Barcelona Juvenil A and Eintracht Frankfurt.
The right winger landed awkwardly after colliding with opposing defender Yannis Ahouannou and immediately asked for a substitution, leaving the pitch in tears and screaming in pain.
Pending medical tests, the attacker may have suffered a serious knee injury. According to SPORT, the early signs are very bad, and there is major concern about the situation.
In the 35th minute, with Barça trying to equalise Eintracht’s early goal and Nomoko being one of the team’s most dangerous players, he challenged Ahouannou for a loose ball. After the challenge, the winger fell badly.
From the first moment, the signs were dreadful. The young winger raised his hand and called for medical assistance amid chilling cries. The Estadi Johan Cruyff fell silent, then gave him a loud ovation as he was taken off on a stretcher.
The 17-year-old attacker has been a breakout star in the reserve team this season, having featured in each of Barça Atletic’s 14 league matches, producing two goals and four assists.
He came into the Youth League match after being sent off last weekend with the reserve team at Alcoyano. Four days later, he may have suffered an injury that could keep him out for several months.
As reported previously, Barcelona are working with him to turn him into the next breakthrough star from La Masia.
It seemed only a matter of time before he received an opportunity with the first team, although this setback could delay his breakthrough in the short term.
As for the game, Barcelona U-19 side came back from 3-1 down to secure a 4-3 comeback victory at Estadi Johan Cruyff.
