La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week been dealt a fresh blow on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that defender Éder Militão picked up a muscular problem whilst on international duty with Brazil.

As per The Athletic’s Real Madrid reporter Mario Cortegana:

‘The CBF announces that Militao will not play during this break due to a muscle injury.’

Whilst news of any injury in the club’s ranks would of course mark a source of concern for Real Madrid, this one, in particular, is likely to set alarm bells ringing.

Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is dangerously short of options at the heart of defence at present, with David Alaba and youngster Joan Martínez sidelined long-term, and Jesús Vallejo continuing to struggle for fitness.

In the case of Militão facing up to any sort of extended spell out of action, the plan, based on Ancelotti’s past comments, would likely have involved the return of midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni to a place in defence for the weeks ahead.

However, the Frenchman was also forced to pull out of international duty this week.
