According to Americayya.net, José Zúñiga left this morning’s Club América training in Coapa for an emergency hospital visit after suffering an injury, then returned a few hours later. No details have been disclosed and, given the incident, it did not appear minor, with the player already being discounted for Friday’s game against Atlante.

América held the session with focus on that Atlante meeting. On Saturday, Guillermo Almada claimed his first victory in charge with a 1-0 win over Querétaro, though the display fell short of expectations.

The positive for this week is that players called by their national teams for the World Cup will be available.

The setback may also complicate plans to move Zúñiga on in the current transfer window. If the injury proves significant, a departure could be ruled out.

Further information on the severity is awaited.
