The powers that be at La Liga rivals Deportivo Alavés and Athletic Club have this week opened official negotiations over a summer transfer.

That’s according to Relevo, who point towards Asier Villalibre as the subject of the discussions in question.

Frontman Villalibre, for his part, has been made aware that he is out of the plans of Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde with a view to next season.

With just 12 months remaining on the 26-year-old’s contract terms in the Basque County, Athletic have, in turn, made him publicly available for transfer.

And one leading suitor, as alluded to above, have quickly positioned themselves at the front of the queue for Villalibre’s signature.

As per a report from Relevo:

‘A year and a half ago he spent half a season on loan at Deportivo Alavés and now this club is the most interested in acquiring his services on a transfer.’

Talks, as a result, have been opened between the two clubs, both of whom are eager to strike an agreement at the earliest opportunity.

It now remains to be seen whether as much is forthcoming over the hours and days ahead…
