Alavés face fresh turmoil before a visit to Valencia, with Eduardo Coudet’s future suddenly uncertain amid interest from River Plate.
According to Superdeporte, Coudet has accepted an offer from River Plate and could depart within hours.
His possible exit comes at a delicate moment. Alavés lost at the Ciutat de València on Friday and sit 15th on 27 points, only three ahead of Mallorca in the relegation places.
The club have launched a rapid search for a successor, with Quique Sánchez Flores the leading candidate. The former Valencia, Atlético and Sevilla coach brings experience of stabilising difficult situations, most recently at Sevilla in 2023-24.
Alavés are due at Mestalla next in LaLiga to face Valencia, who still have to play Osasuna this matchday. If talks drag on, the visitors may arrive without a permanent head coach.
River Plate’s move follows Marcelo Gallardo’s departure at the club, and Coudet has been among the names under consideration. Alavés, meanwhile, need immediate order and points, having shown inconsistency and worrying game management in the loss to Levante.
