Deportivo Alavés have sacked Serbian centre-back Nikola Maras for disciplinary reasons after an internal performance review.

The club said in a statement that the procedure, carried out under the AFE-LALIGA collective agreement, identified a clear, voluntary and sustained decline in his agreed work levels and that he was invited to respond but did not.

The decision followed a report that assessed his performance across his entire time at the club. The study used Wyscout for technical and tactical data, SkillCorner for competitive physical metrics, and Catapult and WIMU to track training load and behaviour.

Maras, who was under contract until 2027, arrived from Almería during the 2023-24 season, initially on loan. He was important in the team that won promotion to the top flight and played 20 matches in Segunda before a meniscus injury halted his progress.

He later spent loan spells at Levante, Sporting de Gijón and Mirandés. After returning to Vitoria and completing this pre-season, the club ended their association.
