Alban Lafont says yes to Côte d’Ivoire
Born in Ouagadougou, Alban Lafont will now defend the colors of Côte d’Ivoire. Didier Deschamps also called him up for Les Bleus three years ago.
At 26, the goalkeeper is turning a new page. In September 2022, he experienced life with the French national squad, though he didn’t play against Austria or Denmark. But the Toulouse-trained shot-stopper has chosen a different path: that of the Elephants.
Emerse Faé has called him up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. A major challenge awaits the keeper, who played for Nantes and now features for Panathinaikos, as he’ll have to compete with Africa Cup of Nations champion Yahia Fofana.
The schedule is clear: Burundi on September 5, then Gabon on the 9th. Two matches to impress. Two matches to prove he can be the last line of defense for the reigning African champions.
