Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani responded to the pressure with his performance against Venezia in Serie A yesterday.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. laud the 22-year-old for a mature performance at the heart of midfield.
Midfielder Asllani started for Inter in yesterday’s Serie A match away to Venezia.
The Albanian international took the place of Hakan Calhanoglu at the base of the Nerazzurri’s midfield.
Filling in for Calhanoglu in that role is never easy.
And Asllani himself has admitted that the criticism that he’s faced after some of his performances has been excessive, and has gotten to him.
There was little evidence of Asllani struggling with the pressure yesterday, however.
The former Empoli midfield did not necessarily have a huge amount of space to operate in.
However, Asllani made the most of what he did have. His passing kept Inter on the front foot, particularly in the first half.
The Nerazzurri gave a clear sign that they can win when Calhanoglu is absent.
The Turk is arguably the player who has become most “irreplaceable” for them.
However, Asllani stepped up to the task of filling in with enough personality and maturity.
