Villarreal B are in the Segunda promotion play-off places and 11 matches unbeaten in Primera RFEF, a run shaped by head coach David Albelda’s competitive and ambitious blueprint.
As reported by AS, the former Valencia and Villarreal midfielder has coaxed a young squad into form after an uncertain start, with age and turnover testing the mini-submarine before momentum took hold.
Week by week Albelda has built a compact unit, solid in defence and direct in attack. They control games and adapt quickly to rivals, a blend that delivered against Eldense last Wednesday, another side tipped for promotion.
Personnel has changed throughout the campaign, with Marcelino drafting Carlos Maciá, Alassane Diatta and Ives Valou into the first team. The winter window also took winger Víctor Moreno and striker Álex Rubio, then their main attacking threats, who remain Villarreal B’s top scorers.
With an average age of 20, Albelda has leaned on the Juvenil and Villarreal C, aided by his presence at the club since December 2023. From La Pobla Llarga, he is instilling the competitive streak that defined his playing days. His rise began at modest Atzeneta with promotion to Segunda RFEF, then Villarreal C, and now consolidation with the groguet reserves.
