Albion name first domestic XI with no English-born players | OneFootball

Albion marked their 125th anniversary with a club first, naming a starting XI in a domestic match with no English-born players in the win over Arsenal.

TheArgus.co.uk reports that Matt O’Riley, born in Hounslow but capped by Denmark, was the only English-born player to feature, introduced in the closing stages.

His mother is Danish and he represented England up to under-18 level. Of the 16 players used, none were English by football nationality, while current Three Lions squad member Jason Steele stayed on the bench.

The milestone was aided by a neck injury that ruled out skipper Lewis Dunk, who joined Jack Hinshelwood among the absentees.

Albion also began the 0-0 draw at Tromso in the Conference League with no England-born players, before Amario Cozier-Duberry, born in Islington, and West Sussex’s Hinshelwood came on as substitutes.

In the 5-0 win at Coventry, the Seagulls used 15 outfield players, all of different nationalities.
