Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 18 games

Article image:Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 18 games

A ninth draw in ten games for Carlos Corberán’s team makes it ten for the season which is a new club record at this stage of the season. It also extends the Baggies’ unbeaten run to ten matches which equals the record in Corberán’s tenure and is the most league matches without defeat since Slaven Bilić’s team went 14 games without losing in 2019.

Albion have conceded just 12 goals in the first 18 games of the season which matches the club record at this stage set back in 1908.

The record of just two defeats at this stage of the season has only been bettered once in our comparison seasons, in 2019/20 under Bilić, and the only other season when Albion lost just once in the first eighteen games was in 1957/58 under Vic Buckingham. In only three other campaigns have Albion been beaten just twice at this stage, in 1901/02, 1908/09 and under Ron Atkinson in 1978/79. All five of those teams ended up finishing in the top four.
