Manchester United failed to start the new season on a positive note, succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of newly promoted Hull City.

Michael Carrick’s men could not break down City’s five-man backline, owing to a lack of a potent threat out wide. Meanwhile, the home side’s left-back, Ryan Giles, enjoyed a brilliant game, delivering plenty of dangerous balls into the penalty area.

Interestingly, United remain in the market for a left-back with a similar profile.

Manchester United approach Alejandro Balde

Earlier this week, The Peoples Person relayed a report from Fabrizio Romano claiming Manchester United are interested in Alejandro Balde.

The Red Devils are prioritising signing a left-back after securing the services of Carlos Baleba, and the Barcelona youngster has emerged as one of the options.

It is understood there have been calls between United and Balde’s camp over the last few days to understand the conditions for a potential transfer.

Balde is thought to be happy at his boyhood club, but Barca appear to be pushing for his exit to balance the books.

Alejandro Balde out of Barcelona squad

Hansi Flick has omitted Balde from his matchday squad to face Elche in the side’s La Liga opener.

According to Spanish outlet AS, the 22-year-old is “more out than in” at the club.

His absence from the squad to face Elche is “another step towards his transfer to the Premier League, specifically Manchester United.”

It is added that Flick has given Balde permission to finalise his transfer away from Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, Spanish journalist Gerard Romero suggests Balde was ready to travel with the team, but Flick told him he was not part of his plans in what appears to be a major step in bid to push the player out of the club.
