In the last few hours, reports emerged that Alejandro Balde to Manchester United was back on.

It remains the worst-kept secret that the Red Devils hope to sign a left-back. The position has become a source of concern over the last few games, with Luke Shaw at times looking like a liability.

Michael Carrick therefore needs a decent option there to compete with the Englishman.

The suggestion has been that if INEOS see an opportunity to strike a deal for a left-back, they would take it.

Man United’s last-minute attempts to sign Balde

In Spain, however, reports claim the 20-time English champions are doing their best to convince Balde to make a last-minute move.

In response, though, Sky Sports’ Danyal Khan has dropped a sober update on Balde to Manchester.

He says: “Understand reports in Spain suggesting Man United are looking again at Alejandro Balde are wide of the mark.

“At this point, outside of Louis Page, it’s unlikely any incomings are arriving this evening, including a left-back.”

This update has therefore dashed any hope of a last-minute left-back signing.

Hopefully the Louis Page deal goes through; it would be frustrating if it did not. As I write this, INEOS are pressing hard to sign the teenage midfield sensation.

Which way for Man United’s left-back

As for United’s left-back, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui and Carlos Baleba could all provide options in Shaw’s absence.

We could also see Patrick Dorgu revert to his left-back role, while Marcus Rashford‘s lively performances suggest he could make the United left-wing spot his own.
