Bayer Leverkusen star Alejandro Grimaldo makes it no secret that he wants to play in LaLiga before his retirement. The Spaniard, who announced his dream last summer, has again reiterated his desire to play in Spain’s top flight one day.

“I’ve always said it: I want to return to LaLiga,” explained Grimaldo. “That’s one of my goals. I’m very happy at Bayer Leverkusen, but I’ve always said that I want to return to LaLiga, and some day I will.”

Grimaldo last went public with his intention to play in his homeland in August 2025, telling Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger. “It doesn’t have to be this year. It could be next year. It could be in two years. It could even be in five years.”

Grimaldo, who turns 31 in September, continues to be an invaluable player for Bayer Leverkusen, although his 14 goals and 12 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions was unable to help Die Werkself secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League after finishing sixth, while they were knocked out in the European competition to eventual finalists Arsenal.
