Alessandro Circati has arrived in Lisbon ahead of completing a move to Benfica after an 18 million euro agreement with Parma, adding to Marco Silva's defensive options.

The Australia international landed at Humberto Delgado Airport at 10:03 on Wednesday after flying from Milan, with the flight initially bound for Tires Aerodrome before diverting to Lisbon, according to Glorioso 1904.

He will now undergo the usual procedures before an official unveiling. On arrival he described Benfica as an incredible club, said he knows its great history and that it wants to win many titles.

The transfer was agreed at 18 million euros, with a further 2 million linked to objectives. Circati had already said goodbye to his Parma team-mates and did not take part in Wednesday's training.

The Italy-born, Australia-raised centre-back, 22, joins a position reshaped this window. He will compete with Tomás Araújo and Clément Lenglet after the exits of Nicolás Otamendi and António Silva, with Gabriel Índio also signed for the middle.

A graduate of Perth Glory before joining Parma's academy, he made 96 senior appearances for the Italian club, scoring two goals and providing two assists. He featured in four matches at the recent World Cup.
