A mural of Alessia Russo has been unveiled at her grassroots club Bearsted FC, after starring for England in their historic Euro 2025 triumph.
The Arsenal striker scored the equalising goal which took the final against Spain on Sunday to extra-time and penalties.
Her club teammate Chloe Kelly then scored the winning penalty, after Hannah Hampton saved spot-kicks from Aitana Bonmati and Mariona Caldentey.
Russo scored two goals during the tournament, after netting four at Euro 2022 when England won the trophy on home soil.
She will hope to be part of the team that looks to win the trophy for a third time in a row at Euro 2029.
UK betting websites have the Lionesses as 3/1 second-favourites behind Spain to win the trophy in four year’s time.
Bearsted FC, based near Maidstone in Kent, unveiled the mural for Alessia Russo after England’s Euro 2025 success.
Russo played for the club as a youngster before she went on to become one of the best strikers in the world.
The mural was funded by the National Lottery, who also gave the club £10,000 during the Covid pandemic. This funding was imperative to the club’s survival.
The National Lottery said the mural was “ready to inspire the next generation of football stars”.
Former Lioness Rachel Yankey was in attendance at the unveiling, and said as per Football.London: “I’m hugely proud of Alessia.
“I was really pleased that she got the goal that brought us back into the game. It was a fantastic header and shows you just what sort of a striker she is.
She added: “Girls now all want to be the next Alessia Russo. It’s great they’ve got a role model they can relate to. We’ve got this picture on the side of our clubhouse now which we can keep forever.”
Alessia Russo celebrated England’s Euro 2025 success with her teammates in Tuesday’s trophy parade in London.
She now has some time to rest up ahead of the new season. She started her break by attending the Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night.
Arsenal’s WSL fixtures see the Gunners start off the new campaign with a match against newly promoted London City Lionesses on Saturday, September 6th.
The Gunners also face West Ham, Manchester United and Aston Villa in their opening month.
Russo has been tipped to be in contention for the next Ballon d’Or winner. This comes after winning the Champions League and Euro 2025 over recent months.
However, she will face tough competition from the likes of Spain pair Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati.
