Alessio Romagnoli is moving closer to a Lazio exit, and Maurizio Sarri may also be weighing his position. According to Il Messaggero, a sale of the centre-back could trigger the head coach’s immediate resignation.
The 31-year-old has grown unhappy with his situation after Claudio Lotito reneged on a promise to increase his salary following Champions League qualification in 2023.
Since the start of the month, Romagnoli has been linked with Al-Sadd, the Qatari club coached by Roberto Mancini. His agent, Enzo Raiola, said they are exploring options, but he will not join another Italian side out of respect for Lazio.
A move remains possible, and it remains to be seen whether an agreement will be reached.
Sarri had pledged to stay until the end of the season out of loyalty to his players and the fanbase. However, the report said losing his defensive lieutenant could force a rethink, with relations with Lotito and sporting director Angelo Fabiani already strained by recent public barbs.
