Alex Sandro's 2026 has been uneven, yet Flamengo are backing him with a new deal to 2027 and Carlo Ancelotti has kept him in Brazil's World Cup plans. According to Globo.com, the tournament could be the reset he needs.

The left-back is in contention to start Brazil's opener against Morocco in New Jersey on Saturday at 19:00. He is likely to line up with Danilo, his team-mate at Flamengo and at other clubs.

He has 22 appearances this season, 20 from the start. A right-thigh injury ruled him out of the March squad, and his performances have drawn increased criticism from fans.

Even so, head coach Leonardo Jardim and the board have maintained their trust. Agreement is in place for a contract running to the end of 2027, with his current deal expiring in December. The expectation is that he will sign after returning from the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The physical demands of Brazilian football had almost prompted him to seek a less intense league for 2027, and he relayed that wish to close contacts. He has nevertheless welcomed Flamengo's interest in adding a further year.

Since arriving in the second half of 2024, Alex Sandro has played 78 games for Flamengo, scoring one goal with two assists. He has won six trophies, two Cariocas, the Copa do Brasil, the Brasileiro, the Libertadores and the Supercopa, and has been a fixture in the side.
