Newcastle star Alexander Isak has addressed transfer interest from Arsenal.

Isak has been a long-time target for the Gunners, and transfer speculation over a move to the Emirates Stadium is increasing ahead of the summer with Mikel Arteta expected to make a big-money striker signing, and the Newcastle talisman is top of his wishlist.

Newcastle are expected to resist any bids for Isak, who is valued in excess of £100million, and instead hope to tie him down to a new contract with talks reportedly planned for the end of the season.

When asked about Arsenal’s interest, Isak underlined his happiness at Newcastle and reiterated his desire to qualify for the Champions League, a competition the Gunners are all but guaranteed to qualify for while the Magpies remain in a fight to confirm their spot for next season.

"There’s not much to say, really," he told Fotbollskanalen, via Sport Witness, on Wednesday. "I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times. It’s been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there.

"I’m not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and qualify for the Champions League. That’s where my focus lies."

Isak last week helped Newcastle end their 70-year trophy drought, scoring the second goal in a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley to win the Carabao Cup.

The striker is yet to return to the city of Newcastle since the win in London, having linked up with the Sweden squad after the final.

He continued: "Things like that can’t be described. I think you can only imagine how it feels. But it’s an incredible feeling. Wembley packed with all the Newcastle fans there.

"I’m looking forward to seeing what Newcastle is like as a city after that. I haven’t been back yet."
