Striker needs to build up his match sharpness ahead of potential Liverpool debut
Alexander Isak has trained with the Sweden national team for the first time since his Liverpool transfer was confirmed.
Isak completed his £125million, potentially rising to £130million British transfer record move to Liverpool on Deadline Day, but has to wait a little while longer before linking up with his new team-mates.
Despite not featuring at all for Newcastle during pre-season or in the opening three games of the Premier League campaign, the 25-year-old has still been named in the Sweden squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo.
Upon sealing his move to Liverpool, Isak made his way to Stockholm and was part of Tuesday’s training session.

Isak is in line to feature against Slovenia on Friday, though Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has stated playing 90 minutes is unlikely due to the striker’s lack of match practice.
He said: "He is very stable and controlled.
“We have no worries. He is not able to play for 90 minutes, but he can be a game-changer.”
Isak’s Liverpool debut could come after the international break. The leaders are away at newly-promoted Burnley on Sunday, September 14, 2025 before facing Atletico Madrid at home in the league phase of the Champions League three days later.

“Yeah, of course, I think that’s the ambition,” Isak said. “However, I’ve had a tricky summer where I haven’t played any games and I’ve had restricted training, so I think that’s one to judge and to analyse where I am at and how much I am ready to give.
“But I certainly want to play as soon as possible.”
