Alexandre of Sampaio Corrêa suffered a convulsion on the Maracanã pitch during Saturday's Taça Guanabara meeting with Flamengo.

The incident occurred eight minutes into the first half in the sixth round of the Campeonato Carioca. A team spokesperson stated that he was conscious when he left the Maracanã, then had another convulsion at hospital. He will undergo tests and his condition is stable.

He was running alone when he convulsed, a scene that shocked team-mates, opponents and the crowd.

The player left the ground by ambulance and was taken to the nearby Quinta D'or hospital in Rio de Janeiro's Zona Norte.

Alexandre has a history of overcoming adversity. He almost became tetraplegic after a motorcycle accident in January 2024 and returned to playing a year later.
