The player who Ange Postecoglou signed back in the summer of 2022 never really hit it off in Scottish football with the Celts and when it was clear he wouldn’t be given another opportunity under returning manager Brendan Rodgers, the writing was on the wall for the Argentinian.
Signing from Lanus for a significant £3.75 million at the time, many thought we had been stung after a while, as there was no way we would be able to recoup that initial outlay for the left-back. However, in a quite remarkable turn of events, Alexandro Bernabei went on to have an extremely successful loan spell back in South America with Brazilian side Internacional, promoting the hierarchy to condone a big-money move for him this January.

At a reported £5 million, Celtic covered their initial outlay and even made a reasonable profit on a player who barely featured in the green and white hoops during an ill-fated two or so years. Now back in South American football where the culture and environment is probably far more suited and familiar for Bernabei, he’s been going great guns and has caught admiring glances from elsewhere already.
According to a published report by Ezportes GZH, it is claimed that Spanish side Sevilla sent scouts to watch the former Celtic defender in action recently, with a view to potentially bringing him to La Liga this coming summer transfer window. The same report stated that the Spanish club’s representatives will also meet with Bernabei’s agent, Juan Cruz Oller when Internacional take on Juventude at home.

It would be quite the turnaround for Alexandro if it were to come to fruition, after spending a few short years in European football, only to spend even less time in Brazil and then return! Although, depending on the kind of fee being discussed, I don’t think the Celtic hierarchy would have any issues with that, as they have most likely included a sell-on clause inside the deal which took the defender from Paradise to Pele’s homeland.
One to watch for sure…
