Alexia Putellas joins London City Lionesses after Barcelona exit

Alexia Putellas has signed for London City Lionesses after leaving Barcelona, the club said in a statement on Wednesday. The statement hailed her talent and framed her decision to join the independent, women-first club as a strong endorsement of its project.

The move ends her 14-season spell with Barcelona. Owned by Michele Kang, the London club have secured the two-time Ballon d'Or winner, who will wear number 11.

Despite no Champions League after a first season that finished mid-table in the Women's Super League, London City have persuaded one of the game's greats to join.

Putellas, 32, is a world champion and a four-time Champions League winner.

She will link up with French duo Delphine Cascarino and Grace Geyoro.
