Alexis Sánchez leaves Europe after 18 years to play in the MLS | OneFootball

After 18 years and a successful career in Europe, Alexis Sánchez has left Sevilla to join CF Montreal, who compete in the MLS.

The veteran Chilean, now 37, arrives at the Canadian club on a free transfer after his Sevilla contract expired. Although well past his peak, Alexis has remained active, making 29 appearances last season, with four goals and two assists.

Alexis left the Americas in 2008, when he was at River Plate and had already signed with Udinese. He went on to spend three seasons with the Italian side before making the leap to Barcelona, where he played alongside Lionel Messi and also formed a partnership with Neymar during the Brazilian's first year there.

In 2014, he moved to English football, playing for Arsenal and Manchester United. He also represented Internazionale in Italy and Olympique de Marseille in France. In 2024/25, he returned to Udinese for a low-key spell before joining Sevilla.

Now Montreal's new number 10, Alexis will be tasked with helping the club turn things around in the MLS. The Canadians are second from bottom in the Eastern Conference with 16 points from 18 matches.
