If this is true, at least it tells us that Alexis Sánchez is not only about the money.

A report in the British press suggests Sánchez, who is out of contract with Arsenal in the summer, turned down a truly staggering offer from China.

The club involved was said to be the aptly-named Hebei China Fortune, who are managed by Manuel Pellegrini and are set to sign Javier Mascherano from Barcelona in the next few weeks.

And the wages proposed were reportedly — wait for it — £400,000-per-week.

Due to different tax rules and payment systems, Sánchez would have made something like £21m-per-year after taxes, which would rank him up with some of the highest-paid team sports stars in the world.

It has been widely reported that Sánchez has his heart set on re-uniting with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

It now looks likely that he will leave in the summer for free as Arsenal appear unwilling to let him join a rival in January.

At City, Sánchez will earn substantially less than he would have supposedly received in China but the pull of playing for Guardiola at the likely Premier League champions is clearly stronger.
