Alexsandro eyes Lille rebound after injury and World Cup miss, with Ancelotti watching | OneFootball

A year after injuring himself against Toulouse, Alexsandro has yet to recapture his best form. The Lille centre-back missed the World Cup and now wants to re-establish himself at the club and return to the Seleçao.

He featured in Lille’s draw with PSG on Friday in Ligue 1, where Carlo Ancelotti was in the stands. According to L'Équipe, he was there in a protective father capacity and, to a degree, as Brazil’s national team manager, giving him a close look at the 27-year-old’s progress.

His last campaign was blighted by injuries, and his cameos fell well short of the level he had shown before the lay-off.

Despite extra sessions with Lille assistant Jérémie Bréchet, video work and plenty of discussions, his form stalled. With hindsight, the previous staff say his attitude was exemplary, yet he became bogged down.

The defender heads into this season with a point to prove.
