Sevilla’s pre-season has begun with a setback, as Alfon has suffered a right quadriceps muscle tear. The blow comes amid an overstocked squad as departures are awaited.

The injury was detected during medicals before training resumed, stalling plans to integrate the winger, who had returned from a loan at Villarreal, into the first team. Zona Mixta reports that Alfon faces seven to eight weeks out, covering all of pre-season and the league kick-off.

ABC de Sevilla reports that from Monday 6 July, Luis García Plaza must work with a group exceeding 30 players. With a limited wage budget, the club needs sales before it can complete further signings.

Exits include Mendy, Alexis, Azpilicueta, Januzaj, Maupay, Ørjan Nyland and Nemanja Gudelj. New arrivals are Jon Guridi, Juan Iglesias and Arouna Sangante, while Patrick Mercado still requires a medical.

Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos also returns after a fresh loan was agreed. Loanees Adrià Pedrosa, Rafa Mir and Alfon are back, with the club seeking moves for the first two and setting out the first steps of Alfon’s recovery.
