Two Birmingham City players have been predicted to exit St. Andrew’s in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Second City side have been one of the EFL’s most active parties in recent windows, since Knighthead Capital Management bought into the club in 2023.

First, they shocked the world of League One by smashing that division’s transfer record with a £15m+ plus deal for Jay Stansfield. This set them on the path to achieve a record-breaking promotion from the third-tier, which proved there was method in their madness.

The next summer, Blues set their sights even higher, recruiting a number of operators who had previously competed at the top-flight level. Tommy Doyle, Demarai Gray and Kyogo Furuhashi were all brought to St. Andrew’s, sending a serious statement to the rest of the Championship.

However, with all this exciting transfer business, there do have to be some casualties.

Due to the fact that Blues have added so much quality to their ranks in recent times, it means that some other members of the squad have seen their playing time reduced.

Therefore, it is only natural for those operators to pursue an exit in January, as they seek regular football.

With this in mind, Football League World’s Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore, has highlighted the members of Chris Davies’ squad that he believes will be on their way out of St. Andrew’s in the next month.

“In terms of players leaving, you're looking at two,” stated Jason. “Lyndon Dykes, I think he's going to want to play more regularly, especially with Scotland going to the World Cup now. I think he still might go, as he wants to play football.

“I don't actually want him to go, to be fair. He's a good option to come off the bench. Then the other one that should be certain is Alfons Sampsted.

“From day one, Chris Davies just doesn't look like he's fancied him, which I personally don't get. I quite like him. I quite like him every time he's played.

“He was told in the summer that he could go as well and nothing materialised.”

Birmingham City could miss Lyndon Dykes’ presence off the bench

Firstly, Alfons Sampsted looks something of a sure bet to exit Birmingham City in the upcoming transfer window, having made just two appearances for the club this season.

As Jason eluded to, Davies was willing to let the defender leave his squad in the summer, so it seems like only a matter of time before that deal happens.

However, Blues may think twice before letting Dykes go.

Although he has barely started this term, the Scotsman has made 15 Championship appearances altogether, providing a useful option off the bench.

His unique ability to unsettle defences can be crucial when chasing a match and that could be an asset Davies may not want to lose for the second half of the season.

The World Cup may be in Dykes’ mind, but appearing regularly off the bench for a competitive Championship side may not harm his chances of being selected too much.
