Forced off due to injury during the Algiers derby against CRB, Alexis Guendouz may miss AFCON 2025. The MC Alger goalkeeper, a solid starter and Algeria’s number one, is currently undergoing a series of medical tests to assess the severity of his calf injury. This information was confirmed by Franco-Algerian journalist Nabil Djellit, who spoke of a "major uncertainty surrounding Alexis Guendouz," adding: "He is undergoing final tests to determine if he’ll be able to feature at AFCON. He injured his calf with MC Alger."

Should Guendouz be ruled out, it would be a major blow for Algeria, just days before the start of the tournament in Morocco. The technical staff is already preparing for this scenario, especially since the goalkeeping hierarchy could be shaken up. Indeed, Luca Zidane, who was recently called up to the squad, could see his candidacy for the number one spot take on new significance.

Having only joined the Fennecs a few weeks ago, Zinedine Zidane’s son could hardly have imagined such an immediate opportunity. If Guendouz is forced to withdraw, AFCON 2025 could give Luca Zidane an unexpected—and potentially decisive—chance to stake his claim on the international stage.
