The Algerian national team kicked off their training camp in Jeddah in ideal fashion with a 3–1 victory over Zimbabwe, a first test full of lessons for Vladimir Petković. In his post-match press conference, the Swiss manager delivered a comprehensive analysis of his squad’s performance, balancing satisfaction with rising demands ahead of their next clash against Saudi Arabia.

The Swiss tactician was quick to praise the benefits of the match both collectively and individually:

"This match was very useful for us on several levels," he explained.

"We were able to try out new players and give playing time to those who hadn’t had many opportunities before. The idea was to see how they could fit into our playing style and the principles we’re trying to impose. We played the game we needed to and could have scored more goals."

Petković was particularly pleased with the Greens’ first-half display, marked by a controlled tempo and goals from Bounedjah, Amoura, and Hadjam:

"We kept a good rhythm overall, despite the many changes. I’m satisfied with the level shown and especially with the way our principles were respected, even after tactical adjustments."

Areas for improvement before facing Saudi Arabia

Despite the victory, the coach also pointed out several details to work on, notably the drop in attacking efficiency after the break:

"We could have scored more, especially after halftime. There was a lack of efficiency in front of goal. That’s one area we need to fix quickly."

Finally, Petković addressed the tough conditions faced in Jeddah:

"The heat and humidity made things more challenging physically."

With this first test under their belt and the staff now clear on what needs improvement, the Greens can approach the showdown with Saudi Arabia with ambition and clarity. The training camp is just beginning, but the signs are promising.
