Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce that midfielder Ali Coote has signed a new long-term contract with the club, keeping him at Tolka Park until at least the end of the 2027 season.
Coote joined the Reds in July 2024 from Detroit City FC and has become a vital part of the squad. Since arriving to Tolka, the Scottish native has made 43 league appearances, scoring 6 goals, and has been one of the Reds most creative and consistent performers.
Across the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Coote has featured prominently in both domestic and European competition. In 2024, he made 13 league appearances and scored 1 goal, a memorable long range stunner against Bohs at Tolka, he also featured twice in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers. This season, the 27-year-old has appeared in 30 league games, scoring 5 goals, while also netting 2 goals in eight European appearances as Shelbourne reached the league phase of continental competition for the first time in the club’s history.
Before returning to the League of Ireland, Coote enjoyed spells with Bohemians and Waterford FC, amassing over 100 appearances in the league.
Ali Coote said: “Things have gone really well since signing for Shels, x1 league title and qualification for the group stage in Europe. I’ve managed to get my love for the game back after a tricky spell before joining the club. I’m grateful to everyone at Shelbourne for that and excited to extend my stay and build on what we’ve achieved.””
Shelbourne FC Manager Joey O’Brien said: ““Delighted to get this done. Ali has been a great player for us since coming in halfway through last season and played a massive part in winning the league. He’s an ambitious player who always wants more, more goals, more assists, more success and that’s exactly what we want too. We’re delighted that he sees Shelbourne as the best place for him to keep progressing.”
“Ali’s a highly technical player, and over the past few months he’s probably been playing the best football of his career. He’s had other offers in the league as you’d expect, so we’re really pleased that he’s chosen to continue with us and keep building on what he’s started here.”
Shelbourne FC Technical Director Luke Byrne added: “Ali is a key player for us and has been a standout performer this season. Everything he does is with real quality and he brings a calmness and composure to our attack. We are really happy Ali sees his future with us and I believe his best years are ahead of him in a Shels jersey.”
