Leeds United Women are back in FA Women’s National League Division One North action, travelling to Norton & Stockton Ancients for the third time this season on Sunday.
After drawing in the FA WNL Cup and winning on penalties after a goalless draw in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, the Whites will be looking to secure a league win against Sunday’s hosts.
Last time out, Simon Wood’s side defeated Stockport County Ladies 3-1, thanks to goals from Alice Hughes, Drew Greene and Ellie White, putting the pressure on the top of the table, reducing the deficit to two points with a game in hand.
Ahead of the clash with Norton, Whites midfielder Hughes said: “The squad's feeling really good ahead of the game on Sunday. I think the mood in camp at the minute is really positive. The massive theme around us all at the minute is we are very much a squad, and every single person is important, whether you're starting or coming off the bench.
“Every single person plays a vital role in what we're trying to achieve. I think winning always helps. It always helps to improve the mood around camp and we're all working for each other.
“We are literally taking it week by week in every game, whether it’s a league game or a cup game,” last week’s opening goalscorer added. “Each team presents its own challenge, and I think we take that week by week. We go into the week starting on Tuesday and we sort of break it down and we stay very much focused on that, rather than thinking ahead.
“We've already played them twice away, so doing that journey again for the third time already, I think both teams know each other quite well. We'll obviously prepare the same way that we always do. We'll break down their strengths and any potential weaknesses. We'll also assess our own performance and where we think we can improve.
“We're not going to underestimate what they've got to offer and what challenges they'll present us, so I think it's about showing them respect, but again, following our own process and focusing on us and where we can improve and strengthen in areas that we're already doing really well in.”
