Valencia have completed their second signing for next season, with Mali midfielder Aliou Dieng, 28, signing for two seasons with an option for a third.

According to AS, the deal has been signed in recent hours and takes effect from 30 June, when his Al Ahly contract expires. He committed while on Mali duty in Saint Petersburg, and will link up with Carlos Corberán’s squad in the summer, as will Justin De Haas.

Valencia assessed Dieng in January to strengthen midfield, but a move did not materialise. Ron Gourlay, when confirming De Haas, hinted another addition was close, understood to be Dieng, who had long been on scouting chief Lisandro Isei’s radar.

The club have now acted to complete the Dieng operation, matching the ball-winning profile Corberán sought for the centre of the pitch.

Capped 46 times by Mali, Dieng will be playing in Europe for the first time after spells in Mali, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. With Al Ahly he is a four-time Asian Champions League winner, and he has also lifted multiple league and cup titles in Egypt.
