All set for the Next Generation Trophy!

U16 competition from 20 to 22 August with big names

Salzburg will be a football hotspot in the coming days thanks to our co-operation partner FC Liefering! Dozens of U16 talents will once again be following in the footsteps of Ferran Torres - winning goalscorer in the World Cup final - Konrad Laimer and Dominik Szoboszlai this year when the Red Bull Football Academy becomes the stage for the Next Generation Trophy again from tomorrow. The 17th edition of the prestigious youth tournament, in which so many big names have already taken their first career steps, extends over three days and features top-class participants. Manchester City, Ajax, Juventus and Benfica are all taking part and – like the Salzburg Young Bulls coached by Stefan Schoberer – want to succeed Red Bull Bragantino as the reigning title holders.

The 12 participants are divided into four groups. The best two teams advance to the quarter-finals, the rest play placement games.

Top-quality start

Things will get serious for the hosts tomorrow, Thursday, from 11:00 CEST, when the opening game against Manchester City takes place. Group A is completed by RB Omiya Ardija (JPN). The complete schedule can be found on the following link.

The gates of the Red Bull Football Academy are open to any interested spectators. Parking is not permitted on site, but parking spaces are available at the Salzachseen.

Mode

Matches are played over two halves of 25 minutes each with a five-minute break. In the knockout phase, after a draw in regular time, a penalty shootout determines the winner.
