One player who has had a disappointing season for Manchester City is Jack Grealish. After missing out on selection in England’s squad for the European Championships last summer it had appeared that the scene was set for the England international to have a successful 24/25 season. But that hasn’t been the case. Injuries and poor form have seen Grealish fall down the pecking order in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Now a new report indicates that Manchester City may be ready to accept offers for Grealish this summer. In truth, that is probably the best move for all concerned.
Pete O’Rourke has reported for Football Insider that Manchester City are ready to accept offers for Jack Grealish this summer. Furthermore, O’Rourke reports that Grealish is currently unhappy with his role in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Lastly, O’Rourke adds that Jack Grealish’s current contract with the world champions expires in 2027. At this stage, there appear to be no plans to extend the contract of Grealish, and Manchester City will sell the winger if they receive an acceptable offer for his services, as per O’Rourke’s report.
What has been clear to see as this season has progressed is that Jack Grealish has fallen down the pecking order in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Currently, Savinho and Jeremy Doku have been Pep Guardiola’s preferred options on the left wing. Grealish was an unused substitute in Manchester City’s 1-nil defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Tellingly, in a game where City were crying out for more creativity, Grealish cooled his heels on the bench. The January arrival of Omar Marmoush appears to have further pushed Grealish down the pecking order at Manchester City. Based on this you do feel that a summer move for Grealish is the best move for him and for City.
From City’s point of view they can move on from Grealish and continue planning for the future. For the England international he can move on from the world champions and hopefully get more opportunities to play elsewhere. Jack Grealish has achieved plenty at Manchester City and his role in Manchester City’s treble winning season in 22/23 won’t be forgotten. But that was several seasons ago and it doesn’t appear that Grealish will hit those heights again for Pep Guardiola’s side.
All indications are that Jack Grealish could be one of several players to leave Manchester City this summer. Looking at the situation surrounding the England international perhaps that is for the best for him and for Manchester City. That’s a fair conclusion to draw after Grealish’s form and fitness issues this season.
