Sevilla have this evening sealed a long-anticipated deal for Manchester United youngster Mateo Mejía.
The name of starlet Mejía, of course, has long taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Andalusia.
This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming in the media, that the 20-year-old had been identified as a prime January target on the part of the Sevilla brass.
Just who, though, is incoming arrival at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán?
Mejía is a highly-regarded attacker, who generally lines out on the right wing, but is also capable of featuring in a more central role.
After making the move to Manchester from Real Zaragoza in 2020, he initially endured a difficult time of things, spending much of the first three years of his stint in England on the sidelines owing to injury.
The season to date, though, has seen Mejía provide a timely reminder of his talents.
Across nine appearances for Manchester United’s U23s, he has racked up an impressive eight goal contributions, courtesy of three goals and five assists.
At international level, meanwhile, the Zaragoza native plies his trade with Colombia’s U20s.
All told, it has in turn come as little surprise to hear of those in a position of power at Sevilla pushing hard for Mejía’s signature across the month to date.
And, as alluded to above, on Saturday evening, the Nervionenses have gotten their man.
As per a report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano:
‘Sevilla agree deal to sign Mateo Mejia from Manchester United on a permanent transfer.’
Manchester United, for their part, will not secure any form of fee for the move, with Mejía’s terms at Old Trafford due to come to an end in the summer.
The Red Devils will, though, be entitled to a 25% cut, in the case of Sevilla selling the talented frontman at some point down the line.
