Itâs out with the old, and in with the new as far as the Champions League is concerned, as the group stage as we knew it has now been replaced by a new format.
Instead of eight groups of four teams, 2024/25 will see 36 sides take part in the âleague phaseâ of the competition, which means there are four extra sides involved.

And while the old group stage meant that teams would play three other sides at home and away, now each team will play eight different opponents, depending on how they are seeded.
