The midfielder was sent off at the end of the first half for a challenge on an opponent. He was charged under Article 254 of the CBJD for a violent tackle and, after a Third Commission hearing on Wednesday 3, received a two-match ban.

The code cites examples such as excessive force beyond what is reasonably expected for the sport, and reckless or imprudent challenges even without intent to injure.

On 28, the STJD’s Fourth Commission acquitted Paulinho over a gesture made after Palmeiras’ third goal against Flamengo, which had been treated as obscene in the complaint.

The Prosecutor’s Office appealed, and the Full Court on Wednesday 3 imposed a one-match suspension. The ruling cannot be appealed by Palmeiras, and Paulinho will miss the match against Coritiba after the World Cup break.
