Castellón lost 3-2 away to Almería in the play-off semi-final second leg, a defeat that ended their promotion bid. Several performances still stood out.

Almería struck first through Embarba after Castellón were caught in open space. Cala levelled with an individual effort, then Sienra turned it around to 2-1, leaving victory within reach. The hosts recovered to win 3-2.

Matthys was tidy with his feet and not at fault for the goals. Pablo Santiago worked the right flank before making way, while Alberto tried to lead the back line but could not stop Embarba's opener. Brignani impressed in the duels and Sienra was intense and dependable.

Barri steered many of Castellón's best spells. Gerenabarrena delivered another tireless shift, first in midfield then at right-back. Cala kept trying under close attention, Raúl Sánchez grew into it before going off late, Jakobsen found spaces to launch attacks, and Camara was quiet but linked with Jakobsen after the break.

From the bench, Ronaldo's dead-ball delivery was crisp and he claimed a stamp in the build-up at the corner for the winner. Suero came on in the 83rd minute and Lucas Alcázar worked his wing. Álvaro was a late throw, and De Nipoti caught a volley that deflected off a defender near the end.
