Matías Almeyda’s Sevilla FC stint ended on 23 March, and the Argentine could be out of work only briefly as Liga MX heavyweights circle. The Nervión club, meanwhile, are resetting their project under Luis García Plaza.
La Razón reports that Rayados de Monterrey, CF América and Chivas de Guadalajara are vying to appoint him. A return to Chivas would be laden with sentiment after his 2015-2018 spell delivered one Liga, two Copas and a CONCACAF Champions League.
Meanwhile, As suggests Monterrey, home to ex-Sevilla players Óliver Torres, Lucas Ocampos, Anthony Martial and Tecatito Corona, would be pushing hard to land the coach.
The Sevilla-Mexico link extends beyond their former manager. Several players with past at Nervión have headed to Mexico in recent times, and Sergio Ramos’s last active club stint came there as he now positions himself to preside over the club.
Liga MX remains on Sevilla’s recruitment radar too. Ekrem Konur reports that Tigres winger Ozziel Herrera is being monitored, with Porto also keen, and that scouts have recently tracked Cruz Azul captain Erik Lira.
The outcome of Almeyda’s next move could add another chapter to this long-running connection, with several Mexican giants already in the frame. For Sevilla, the focus is on reshaping the squad while continuing to watch emerging talent across Mexico.
