Xabi Alonso has refused to rule Joao Pedro out of Chelsea’s clash with Brentford despite the forward withdrawing from the Brazil squad through injury.
The Chelsea boss was reluctant to reveal the nature of the problem but said a final decision on the striker’s availability will be made after Thursday’s final training session.
“No one is ruled out for us for Friday, so I prefer to be cautious and we will wait until tomorrow to take the final decision on every player,” Alonso said.
Asked whether Joao Pedro could still feature against Brentford despite missing Brazil’s upcoming fixtures, Alonso replied: “It is a possibility.”
There was also a positive update on Moises Caicedo, who is edging closer to a return.
“He’s getting closer and tomorrow we will take the final decision in the team and in the squad that is coming to Brentford,” Alonso said.

Reece James also missed part of Chelsea’s open training session earlier in the week, but Alonso played down any concerns.
“No, it was just a decision for Tuesday and we see his development and tomorrow we will decide,” he said.
Marco Palestra and Jordan Henderson are also nearing returns, although Alonso again stopped short of confirming whether either would be involved.
“Tomorrow, final decision,” he added. “We need to assess all the decisions with the last training and tomorrow we will take the decision for the game in Brentford.”
