América has time until Thursday, 5 September to sign a final reinforcement for the 2019 Apertura and manager Miguel Herrera intends to add a defender before the window closes.
According to various reports in Mexico, América are considering adding Chile international centre-back Gonzalo Jara, who currently plies his trade at Argentine side Estudiantes.
At 34, the two-time Copa América champion is obviously past his prime, but Jara would add some much-needed experience and depth as both Emanuel Aguilera and Bruno Valdez are currently out injured.
It’s believed América would be able to land Jara for $1m.
Jara recently caused some controversy at this past summer’s Copa América after he kicked out at a pitch invader, which drew criticism from all over the world.
Jara only arrived at Estudiantes this past January after spending three years at Universidad de Chile. The 115-time international had a decent career in Europe as well, featuring for Mainz, Nottingham Forest, West Brom, and Brighton.
