With the transfer window entering its final days, Club América are pursuing reinforcements, aiming to add a holding midfielder and a centre-back. The squad currently has only one foreign slot available for the remainder of the Apertura 2026 campaign.
According to ESPN, Querétaro midfielder Santiago Homenchenko is among América’s main targets. The market is due to close on 11 September.
Homenchenko, 23, is Uruguayan and plays for Querétaro. He has just received his first senior call-up for his country ahead of the upcoming FIFA international window.
His career has had ups and downs, featuring spells at Peñarol, Real Oviedo, Mirandés and Pachuca. He is now at Querétaro, where he appears to be finding his best level.
He may not be the marquee name some would expect after figures such as Jonathan dos Santos or Álvaro Fidalgo, yet relative to current options he could improve América’s midfield.
