According to El Universal, Club América are interested in signing Álex Arce, a 30-year-old Paraguay striker currently at the World Cup, as they look at a centre-forward option.

The transfer window has been largely inactive. The squad reported back for pre-season several days ago, yet there have been no official ins or outs.

The only movements so far are Guillermo Almada’s arrival as head coach and the returns of loaned players Esteban Lozano, Franco Rossano, Emilio Lara and Miguel Ramírez. André Jardine has left his role as manager.

Arce plays for Rivadavia in Argentina’s top flight. Despite his age he only began to stand out two years ago, finding his best spell at LDU Quito.

It is not a profile that naturally excites given that record, though the report said the pursuit is a direct request from Almada. If accurate, Almada will have his reasons for wanting Arce at América.
